Understanding Sewing Patterns

Oct 15 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

$40

Presented by: Sarah Sew Love

Time for a theory class. Screens off, paper, pens, hands on, real time, Q&A encouraged.

Join me in un-jumbling the jargon so I can help YOU understand sewing patterns. My dream is to fill you up with confidence, to choose a sewing pattern and sew it up… Without fear, without confusion, without worry, sewing with ease, joy and fulfilment!

In this 2hr workshop where you will learn the following skills to help you take your next steps in your sewing journey:

– Where to purchase patterns from, + all the possibilities of how they arrive to us.
– Best practice with PDF downloadable patterns.
– What other tools might be needed for sewing with patterns.
– Understanding our sizing vs finished garment sizing & grading between sizes.
– Putting patterns to fabric – laying up and cutting out.
– Jargon explained “grainline” “notches” “darts” “pocket placements” “cutting instructions” “seam allowance” “ease” etc.

I have prepared this workshop for any beginner or intermediate sewists who are keen be moving from freestyle stitching, repairs and refashioning to sewing from a pattern. I will not be covering pattern hacking or technical pattern adjustments at this stage.

BYO notebook and pencil, bring a pattern with you if you have one ready, bring all your questions. It’s ok if you don’t yet have any patterns, just tune into the examples I will share around the class to learn with.

Following this theory session, book into the Sweet & Simple to dive into your first pattern.
