I started painting when I retired and although I am mostly self-taught, I have attended tutorials by some well-known artists in order to expand my knowledge and further my grasp of the fundamentals of painting. I am a member of the Katikati Art Group and Creative BOP.
As a child I enjoyed the process of drawing, and this has stood me in good stead now I have ventured into painting. My preferred mediums are oils and pastels, although I have dabbled in water-colours and acrylics, and my subjects are many and varied including landscapes, flowers, still life, portraits, birds and animals, though I do prefer to paint wildlife. In all my paintings I try to capture the light and this is always a challenge.
I have exhibited in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Katikati, Pukekoha, Waikino, Waihi, Wellington and Invercargill. A number of my paintings have been sold to overseas buyers. Over the years I have received many awards, and several times have been nominated for "Viewer's Choice". Although I have been painting for a number of years, I find that there is always more to learn and that is why painting is so fascinating.
