The start of May sees Creative Bay of Plenty - Te Moana a Toi usher in new works from three local women Marilyn Cairns, Deborah Forkert and Jill Hay.
The Under Pressure Exhibition is the culmination of these Creative's focii on print making and the use of ink and tea bags.
Marilyn Cairns will be exhibiting a number of smaller scale ink prints alongside those of Jill Hay, who is a veteran print - maker, whilst Deborah Forkert, a finalist in the 2016 Miles Art Award, has chosen to exhibit a number of her trademark tea - bag works in this exhibtion.
Deborah waxing lyrical earlier today noted that "Under Pressure is a diverse exhibition from three talented local artists. The works are held together with the common thread of “under pressure” to inform or produce them."
Each artist has produced pieces which encompass elements of this turn of phrase. Hay utilises pressure of the print press to produce her exquisite work, Forkert using pressure and incorporating material formed under pressure in her multilayered art, and Cairns abstract simplicity placing pressure on the audience to interpret her ethereal representations.
As artists, the demands to produce and exhibit are often unrecognized and unspoken.“Under Pressure” is an exhibition which pays more than lip service to these particular words.
We look forward to hosting their exhibition at the Simpson Grierson Gallery at Creative Bay of Plenty - Te Moana a Toi and invite you to join us in celebrating the opening of this exhibition along with the artists and their supporters from 5.30pm on Tuesday the 2nd of May 2017.
