I have always been able to draw and paint and when people asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, my reply was always “artist”.
I am one of the New Zealand contemporary artists included in the Imago Mundi : New Zealand: Kiwi Consciousness collection. The book and the paintings were presented to Luciano Benetton in Treviso, Italy in October 2016 and will become part of his World Art collection. I paint as often as possible, and you can view my art online via my Facebook, Instagram and Twitter art pages – just search for “Art by Megan Park” and send me a message if you would like to commission or purchase a painting.
Earlier this year I was part of a small group exhibition at Creative BOP called “New Art, Fresh Start” and have had a number of paintings included and sold through the ‘Tauranga Society of Artists’ events - most recently the Tauranga Home Show and the Tauranga Garden & Arts Festival.
In 1999 I did my OE in New York City (it was amazing) and I come from a family of contemporary New Zealand Maori artists. My own Maori tribal affiliations are with Tuhoe and Whakatohea. I prefer to paint in oil and acrylic and my influences are the Impressionists, Picasso and New Zealand artists including Evelyn Page, Phillip Clairmont, Douglas Badcock and Para Matchitt.
I still enjoy entering different awards, competitions and art prizes around the country –and who knows, maybe one day I will actually win one. It’s fun either way.
