Luke Devery’s leatherworks have been inspired by New Zealand artist Alfred Tinkersmith from colonial times.
Tinkersmith had a love for theatrical arts and masquerade and for two decades he pursued performance and cultural traditions of mask making.
Luke has run many classes for adults throughout the country and up until recently taught drama at Waihi College.
All leatherworks in the exhibition are individually crafted in his Tinkersmith sheds overlooking the ocean.
He’s surrounded by coastal bush and the pieces in this exhibition are inspired by the prolific bird life and the lush native bush on his property.
