Explore how to use the tools needed to craft your own original sculpture in Oamaru stone. Design and draw your original 2D pattern and learn how to convert it into a 3D sculpture. This workshop will cover the basic carving techniques and skills to shape soft Oamaru stone. With a max of 5 students, Rex will be able to provide one on one tuition.
Join other beginner sculptors in a supportive atmosphere, outside under the gazebo situated in a sheltered courtyard behind The Artery. Participants should bring an idea of what they might like to produce over the weekend. All the stone and carving tools and PPE gear are supplied. Please wear closed-in shoes, old clothes and bring a packed lunch. There is also a café just down the road.

Rex holds a Diploma in Art from Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology and has been carving for over 18 years. An award-winning sculptor, Rex has been instrumental in organising and participating in carving symposiums nationwide.
