Connection, through a soul-baring brace of songs that people find themselves reflected in. The vulnerability at the heart of these songs has already found people connecting strongly with Stretch and Paula, who spend time with people after concerts who want to share their responses to the music. There’s an energy left in the room whenever Stretch performs. With songs from the soul and a sound that transports listeners, this is life-affirming music, undeniable in its impact.
Stretch has a passion that sets shows alight. From dark-hearted ballads to roof-raising choruses, his songs are a bittersweet blend of folk, soul and rock’n’roll. Now framing this exceptional voice, is the combination of acoustic guitar and the incredible tone of a 300-year-old cello. In the hands of Paula Sugden, her cello sings with grace and power. This musical connection has brought audiences to a hush, then left them roaring for more. The combination of mesmerising performance and songwriting lead to being selected to open for Elton John in New Zealand on his last ever tour. This beautifully sparse and emotive sound follows on from the album ‘Bury All Horses’ which went Top 10 in the NZ album charts with Stretch being acclaimed for the depth of lyricism in his writing.
