Presented by: The Port of Tauranga 60th National Jazz Festival
Contemporary original jazz from the best in the business.
Since 2010 the 8-piece ensemble The Jac has been a leading voice in the New Zealand jazz scene.
Pushing a modern sound with their distinctive compositions, tight ensemble playing and impressive live shows. Based in Wellington and drawing talent from Melbourne and Montreal, the band brings together musicians from the jazz, classical and metal scenes.
Notable among these are Matthew Allison, associate principal trombonist in the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Shaun Anderson, drummer for metal bands Saving Grace and Depths, and RNZ Concert presenter Nick Tipping on bass. Completing the line-up are Wellington jazz stalwarts Jake Baxendale & Chris Buckland (saxophones), Melbourne-based pianist Daniel Millward, and special guests Daniel Hayles (keys) and Ben Hunt (trumpet).
In 2021 The Jac were awarded “Best Jazz Artist” at the Aotearoa Music Awards for their album A Gathering. A concert by The Jac is a rare event, not to be missed.
“The Jac continues to go from strength to strength … the collision, the collaboration, the combination intoxicating. This was a wonderful show.” Simon Sweetman, Dominion Post
