SUMMARY:Something Human by Mathew Johnson and Ila-Rose Hepetema
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: The Incubator Creative Hub\nTheir works provoke\, resist\, and explode\, each piece igniting the next until the gallery becomes a chain reaction of ideas. \nThis is a rare collision of two singular creative forces\, an eclipse that exists for only a fleeting moment before the orbit shifts again. Once these works scatter back into their own trajectories\, this constellation will not gather in quite the same way again. \nThis is an exhibition that does not ask for your attention. It seizes it\, burrows into it\, and leaves carrying a piece of you with it. \nTo create is to let the soul speak. Play. Create. Express. Connect. \nIla-Rose Hepetema\, a Bay of Plenty Māori artist\, brings vibrant energy to every canvas through her stunning oil paintings and portraiture. With a lifelong passion for colour theory and composition\, Ila-Rose’s work celebrates saturation and vibrancy in bold\, captivating ways. After honing her craft studying contemporary Māori art at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa\, she’s now building her career as a professional artist\, taking portrait commissions and creating striking works that reimagine Aotearoa’s fauna with modern kōwhaiwhai. \nMathew Johnson | Abmon Photos is\, by all accounts\, a fountain of creative energy. Initially dabbling in photography as a means to create raw material for digital art\, his camera quickly became an all-consuming passion. Mathew’s work seeks authenticity as he explores the human experience. Each frame is a cultural snapshot\, a story for us to explore and connect with from our own unique perspectives. Mathew also offers event photography\, written word\, mentoring\, and digital art services\, bringing his creative vision to a variety of projects. His work blends storytelling and artistry to capture meaningful moments and create lasting impressions. \nSponsored by Gate Pa New World. \nThis exhibition launch preview is Friday 28th August – 5.30pm at The Incubator Creative Hub\, The Historic Village\, 17th Ave\, Tauranga. Licensed Bar onsite\, and everyone is welcome. \nOn display in The Incubator Gallery and Studios from the 29th to the 19th of September. 10am – 3pm. \nFind out more

SUMMARY:Wairua | Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: Maraea Timutimu and Tania Lewis-Rickard\nWairua\nOpening Thursday 10th September 2026\, 5.30pm\n117 Willow Street\, Tauranga Moana \nWairua brings together the practices of Maraea Timutimu and Tania Lewis-Rickard through an exploration of kōkōwai as a shared medium. \nThis exhibition creates a space for experimentation\, allowing each artist to work with the material in ways that reflect their own practice\, ideas and ways of making. \nKōkōwai becomes the point of connection between two artists\, while allowing difference to remain. Through the addition of wai\, the material shifts\, moves and responds\, creating new possibilities. \nIn Tauranga Moana\, where whenua and wai continually meet\, Wairua explores what can emerge when two practices come together—sharing a material\, while remaining distinctly our own. \nFind out more

SUMMARY:Wicked
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: Tauranga Musical Theatre\nStep into the magical world of Wicked\, the untold story of the witches of Oz—long before Dorothy ever arrived. \nNow a global sensation both on stage and screen—following the hugely anticipated film adaptation\, Wicked—this beloved musical reimagines the land of Oz from a fresh perspective. It follows the unlikely friendship between two young women: Elphaba\, a fiercely intelligent and misunderstood girl born with emerald-green skin\, and Glinda\, a popular and ambitious socialite. Despite their differences\, the two form a powerful bond at Shiz University—but as their lives take dramatically different paths\, their friendship is put to the ultimate test. \nWith soaring music\, spectacular staging\, and a story full of heart\, humour\, and unexpected twists\, Wicked explores themes of identity\, loyalty\, and what it truly means to be “good.” \nDon’t miss Tauranga Musical Theatre’s spellbinding production of this global phenomenon—an unforgettable theatrical experience for audiences of all ages. \nFind out more

By the end of the session\, you’ll have your own textured artwork to take home. \nAll art materials and tools provided\, as well as a few snacks and nibble. BYO drink if you’d like.🍷🍻 \nIt’s a vibrant and social evening — great to come with friends\, as a couple\, or even on your own if you feel like doing something creative after work.  Important note – Texture can only be white. \nLaura is an Incubator resident artist in the Villa Studios – pop in and say hi! Deeply inspired by the ocean\, Laura’s work reflects the intricate beauty of coral formations and marine ecosystems. Using textured layers\, structural elements and resin\, she creates tactile pieces that evoke the depth and movement found beneath the water’s surface. \nLearn more about Laura and her art here. \nFind out more

SUMMARY:The Feedback Lab
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: The Incubator Creative Hub\nSTOP MARKING YOUR OWN HOMEWORK! \nIt’s time to unlock your creative noncritical voice. \nIntroducing the Feedback Lab 2026/27 monthly sessions. \nThe Feedback Lab invites artists of many different disciplines and levels to connect\, explore\, and share information ideas and processes in a relaxed non-judgemental environment. \nLead by Carol Bisset\, the Feedback Lab provides a safe place in which to share fresh perspectives on your own and other artists work. Throughout the year there will be a select group of guest speakers who will introduce us to their unique journeys as practising artists. \n“I’m really pleased to hear the Feedback Lab might be returning. \nWhat made it different for me was the intentional focus on constructive dialogue. It created a space where artists could share work and receive considered feedback from fresh perspectives. That process encouraged deeper reflection and brought valuable analytical insight into my own practice. I especially appreciated the opportunity to connect with other artists in Tauranga Moana in a meaningful way; not just socially\, but through critical and creative exchange. \nCarol is an outstanding facilitator. She creates a respectful\, responsive environment where people feel safe to speak honestly. Her ability to guide discussion while allowing space for diverse viewpoints is a real strength. \nThe super talented and hugely experienced Tauranga Artist Lynette Fisher will be discussing a range of topics including her five year role as Art Award Coordinator for the Molly Morpeth Canady competition. Lynette will give us an insight into her art practice\, why she enters art awards\, including her recent experience at the Tauranga Art show.  \nThis is a special one off opportunity to raise those questions that have always bothered you about selection processes\, how to deal with rejection and why it’s really good for you in the long run! \n“Grassroots\, inclusive initiatives like this are vital for sustaining a healthy and connected arts community. They make critical conversation accessible and strengthen relationships within the local creative sector. ” \n– Fiorella Silva Perez. \nFind out more

SUMMARY:Kiln God Exhibition - Pot House Gallery Group Show
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: The Incubator Creative Hub\nWe invited potters and ceramists to create their own guardian figures to watch over our brand-new tabletop kiln. The response? Incredible. Now you can see them all at The Pot House – and take home one of your very own. \nFor centuries\, kiln gods have been placed near fires to protect the firing process and bring good fortune. In China and Hong Kong\, Yao Shen is enshrined in temples near kilns\, where potters pray\, burn incense\, and leave offerings. In ancient Greece\, Athena herself was called upon to oversee successful firings\, while mischievous kiln demons were said to punish poorly fired wares. \nIn Western studios today\, potters often handcraft their own playful or personal guardians from leftover clay\, placing them on or near the kiln as symbols of hope\, superstition\, and skill. \nNow\, these timeless protectors are ready to find new homes. \nWhether you place one by your fireplace\, beside the heat pump\, or somewhere it can quietly watch over your whānau\, a kiln god brings a little warmth and a lot of character. \nSponsored by Gate Pa New World This exhibition launch preview is Friday 25th September – 5.30pm at The Incubator Creative Hub\, The Historic Village\, 17th Ave\, Tauranga. Licensed Bar onsite\, and everyone is welcome. \nOn display at The Pot House Gallery from the 26th of September to the 17th of October 10am to 3pm. \nFind out more

SUMMARY:Artful Mind
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: The Incubator Creative Hub\nThe project pairs local artists with people living on the dementia journey. Artists spend time listening to their stories\, learning about their lives\, memories\, passions and experiences\, and then interpret those stories through their own artistic practice. \nThe resulting artworks provide a unique opportunity for the community to see beyond a diagnosis and connect with the person\, their story and their identity. \nThe local artists involved in this year’s exhibition are:\nBronwyn Copeland\nSteph Harlan\nAnne Shirley\nLynette Fisher\nJayna Caudwell\nLaura Penny \nDementia affects individuals\, families and communities across Aotearoa New Zealand. As awareness and understanding become increasingly important\, Artful Mind provides a creative way to challenge misconceptions and reduce the stigma surrounding dementia. \nThe exhibition aims to remind us that dementia does not define a person. SUMMARY:Time In Motion - The Kinetic Art of Ian Howell
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: The Incubator Creative Hub\nWith a background bridging mechanical engineering and project management\, Ian’s practice centres on “visible thinking”. His moving sculptures expose the gear trains and microcontrollers driving each movement\, combining industrial precision with materials like layered plywood\, bamboo\, polished metals\, gold foil\, and optical clear acrylic. \nThe exhibition is arranged across four immersive zones throughout the gallery: \n• The Nature World: Organic cycles brought to life in timber\, featuring the sprawling Breathing Forest and the unfurling red fronds of Koru. \n• The Machine World: A celebration of mechanical wit\, featuring the playful Dancing Clock\, aircraft-inspired mechanisms (Wasp 1830)\, and timepieces running anticlockwise. \n• The Radiant World: Light and shadow intertwine through gold-gilded botanicals\, textured ripple patterns\, and custom-coded LED rings. \n• The Performance World: Moving beyond the traditional dial with flowing liquid-LED animations\, wide-format sand motion\, and freestanding transparent desk clocks. \nWhether you are fascinated by mechanical clockwork\, digital design\, or simply curious about how things work\, TIME & MOTION offers an engaging look at the intersection of engineering discipline and artistic motion. \nSponsored by Gate Pa New World. \nThis exhibition launch preview is Friday 25th of September – 5.30pm at The Incubator Creative Hub\, The Historic Village\, 17th Ave\, Tauranga. Licensed Bar onsite\, and everyone is welcome. \nOn display in The Incubator Gallery and Studios from the 26th of September to the 17th of October 10am – 3pm. \nFind out more

SUMMARY:Tea Ceremony and Sound Journey
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: Ruth Holden | The Sound Temple\nThis is a full immersion into tea ceremony with sound. Held in in a beautiful space\, this is an invitation to slow down and savour tea\, sound and life. \nMark Ryan will be brewing and pouring the finest artisan Sheng Puer tea\, sourced from Yunnan province in China\, then Ruth Holden will be providing sounds and a sound bath journey after the tea session. Mats\, blanket and eye pillows are provided for your comfort. \nAfter the tea ceremony and sound journey we will have a light supper\, tea creates a special kind of hunger and we will enjoy some Chinese treats. \nTea is more than just a beverage —it’s a practice and a way of life. We are in love with art and practice of tea\, and we are excited to share it with everyone. \nDuring the tea ceremony\, you can simply relax\, enjoy the rituals\, and savour the wonderful flavours of tea. \nThis practice also helps us slow down and be more aware of each moment\, allowing us to connect with ourselves and appreciate the hidden beauty within every cup of tea. \nThe sound journey will include chimes\, rattles\, crystal bowls\, gongs and drums. \nPlease be aware:  \n🏯 The ceremony starts on time\, so please aim to arrive 10 minutes early to park and take your spot. We can’t accommodate latecomers\, unfortunately. The space is set up specifically to foster a sense of ceremony and encourage being fully present. \n🏯 Also\, we kindly request that you skip the perfumes when you come to share this experience. They can be a bit overpowering and interfere with the enjoyment of tea. \nLIMITED SPACE TO 6 SOULS. \nThe journey starts when you enter the land at Matapihi\, driving into the rural area and leaving the urban world behind. You are encouraged to leave your phone in your car and join us in the belle tent under two giant walnut trees. \nTake some time to still yourself and ground in the morning before the ceremony. If possible begin your silence from when you wake. Have a light breakfast but do eat something. \nWe look forward to holding space for you. \nFind out more
