Kutu Mukherjee presents Rhythm and Raga - an evening of Indian Melodies.
In Tauranga/Western BOP Region there is a dearth of quality Indian musical performances. The Rhythm and Ragas is going to be a presentation of Indian Classical, semi-Classical and folk performances, by local (Tauranga, Waikato and Auckland) well-known artists. The added attraction will be a folk vocalist from India.
This musical evening will present Indian Classical instrumental performance along with very popular light-classical (Ghazal) performances. This will introduce the immigrant (from India and Bangladesh) audience to a much purer and traditional form of Indian music. This will resonate with the immigrant Indian and Bangladeshi communities of Tauranga, WBOP and even Waikato (The project will showcase the vibrant multicultural participation of immigrant communities of the region, utilising the local facilities (Otomoetai Baptist Church Auditorium).
Additionally, this will provide a high quality introduction to those in the community who have never encountered Indian Classical music or culture. The introduction and exposure to Indian culture by means of music in a comfortable environment provides opportunity for celebration, and incorporation. The audience will be taken on a journey through folk music, classical music and semi-classical traditional styles.
