The annual Creative New Zealand Arts Pasifika Awards celebrate and recognise excellence in Pacific arts across a range of arts practices and career stages. Any New Zealander can nominate an artist or themselves for an award.

This annual award is for young Māori artists who are post-secondary school level and under 25 years of age. It recognizes achievement for those at an early stage of their career in the arts.

The Annual Wallace Art Awards are the longest surviving and largest annual art awards of their kind in New Zealand, with a value amounting to over $275,000. The six winners receive valuable residencies at prestigious institutions in the US, Switzerland, Italy and Russia. Many of the winners and finalists are purchased by the Trust each year to add to the Collection.

You’ll be working alongside Hannah Newport-Watson to lead our editorial activities while maintaining our values, including upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi. You should have at least two years editorial experience, broad knowledge of the arts in Aotearoa and strong communication skills."
- Kaiwāwāhi Kaupapa Māori – Editor Kaupapa Māori - "This is a contract role for an experienced editor with a strong understanding of tikanga Māori, mātauranga Māori and Māori history. Working alongside Hannah Newport-Watson and our other newly-appointed Editor, you’ll work with writers to guide the development of their pieces from a te ao Māori perspective."

OPPORTUNITY: Simply Short Play Festival - Te Puke Repertory Society
Have you ever had a good idea and thought you might like to write a short story or play about it? Now is your opportunity!
Te Puke Repertory Society were so delighted with their inaugural Simply Short Play Festival they are doing it again in 2020. Each play must be submitted before 17 November 2019 but may be accepted at any time after the submission guidelines are available. Your play will be assessed by an independent panel and if your play is chosen it will be produced by Te Puke Rep later in the year 2020.

WORKSHOPS: Life Drawing Classes
When: 1st & 3rd Friday of the month | 9:30am - 12pm
Where: Tauranga Society of Artists, Elizabeth St
Presenting: Tauranga Society of Artists' twice-monthly life drawing sessions! These sessions are untutored, and provide a fabulous ongoing resource/opportunity for any artists interested in drawing from life. There is always a live, nude model and a great, creative, supportive feedback group of artists and art students.
Cost: $7 members, $12 non-members
WORKSHOPS: Upcoming Workshops at The Art Lounge
Oil Painting, Guided Workshops with Nemesh: 6 July & 7 July 2019, 11am - 4pm: This workshop is designed for those that range from no experience at all, to medium experienced students who have been painting already. Vjekoslav Nemesh is an established, multi-award winning artist and art tutor whose teaching methods will show you how to express yourself with oil colours and enable you to find your own unique style in painting. Through a set of exercises students will be able to learn how to handle oil using different tools and techniques.
Felt & Light Workshop with Caroline Burton: 13 July, 11am - 3pm: Join The Art Lounge at the next felted workshop with Caroline in their gallery where you will find everything you need to hand form your own illuminated fibre art tube. This is a great opportunity to create a miniature version of Caroline's striking Fibre Art Light Tubes. You will choose silk fibres from a generous selection of colours, hand dyed by some of Caroline's favourite fibre-dying artisans. Learn how to subtly build up wispy fine layers of colour to create an eye-catching, delicate artwork.
WORKSHOPS: ABC School of Journaling
When: 6 week course beginning 10 June
- Play with new media of expression such as colour, images and symbols.
- Sort out seemingly random experiences in your life.
- Make more conscious choices and decisions.
- Get a clearer picture of your creative potential.
- Deal with creative blocks and negative patterns.
