CBOP News: Creative Views - Groundswell Festival

When: 26 August - 2 September
Where: Red Square, Tauranga CBD

Groundswell marks the launch of Creative Bay of Plenty's pilot project 'Creative Views'. An initiative to bring a vacant CBD storefront to life through collaboration and creativity.

Creative Bay of Plenty aims to provide a taster of what can be achieved in vacant spaces in the Tauranga CBD by adding colour and vibrancy to a once empty window.

The 'Creative Views' window features two installations during the Groundswell Festival. Otherworldly creations will be on display thanks to BOP Film, as well as the winning 2019 SociaLink 'Legacy Trust "Art With Purpose" Award Installation by local artist Maria Kausalainen sharing a powerful message about social issues in our community.

OPPORTUNITY: Call Out - Art in Our City: Design a Manhole Cover

*Submissions close 5pm, Friday 23 August 2019*

Creative Bay of Plenty and Tauranga City Council are commissioning a design for stormwater and wastewater manhole covers in our city. The new covers will be installed in new developments or where manhole covers are replaced. The winning design will live on in our city forever, representing a collaboration between our creatives to bring vibrancy to Tauranga. Creative BOP and the council aim to fill the public art gap identified in the city centre. We collectively value the arts as an activity and product, for what it offers society and our well-being; filling our city with art and design that tell our stories gives us a greater sense of identity, civic pride and belonging. We can't wait to see how our creatives can help implement this initiative.

NEWS FROM CREATIVE NZ: Increasing the arts sector investment by $27 million...

Eighty New Zealand arts organisations are confirmed in Creative New Zealand’s Investment programmes over the next two to six years, following Arts Council approval in July this year.

Due to the number of high-quality proposals received, Creative New Zealand have decided to draw from financial reserves (largely reserves from ‘windfall’ lottery funding) to create an arts investment portfolio fit for the future needs of the arts in New Zealand – including increasing access to the arts and contributing to fairer remuneration for arts practitioners. This represents an increase of approximately $27 million into the arts sector over the next 6 years.

WIN! Jan PrestonTrio '88 Piano's I Have Known ' is showing at 16th Avenue Theatre...

and we have a double pass and a signed CD to give away to a lucky reader!

Just tag in this post who you'd take along to this rollicking good time of a show on Saturday 17 August, and you're in the draw! Winner drawn Thursday 15 August.

This will be a night of unforgettable biographical stories, paired with original songs and piano music that will have you in tears and laughter...

"The show I’m performing is called 88 PIANOS I have known with extraordinary images of pianos (yes, 88 of them!) and personal anecdotes, as well as new songs (Same Sky, Olds on the Loose) and a new killer version of a tune called Nutrocker, based on Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite played in fast boogie style. I’ve been practising this a lot and my left hand is threatening to seize…....well, hopefully not until the end of the tour."

Yours in boogie,
