UPSKILL: ARTillery Workshop: Project Planning for Arts Activities

When: 9.30am - 3.30pm, Wednesday 27 June 2018
Where: Creative Bay of Plenty office, 95 Willow St, Tauranga

All successful projects are based on a good plan. Learn all about project planning, and start putting together a solid plan for your next creative project.

This hands-on interactive workshop will cover:

- Getting clear on your project
- Creating timelines to keep you on track
- Learning about resources and budgets
- Assembling the dream team, working with volunteers and stakeholders
- Being aware of risks and conflicts
- Understanding basic health and safety

OPPORTUNITY: Jann Medlicott Creative Arts Award 

Provide by the Acorn Foundation 

Submissions open 1 July 2018 and close 31 August 2018

This scholarship has been set up to enable a young creative to undertake further study in the creative arts.

This annual award valued at $2,000 is for someone undertaking or about to commence further study in preparation for a career in the creative arts. Managed by the Creative Bay of Plenty on behalf of the Acorn Foundation, applications open 1 July and close 31 August each year.

NEWS: Ceramic Success

The ceramic and pottery scene in the Bay is on fire. 

Congratulations to Anett Pilz who is a member of The Bethlehem Potters Association on winning the Ceramic Association of NZ Award at the Pescatore National Tableware Exhibition 2018.

OPPORTUNITY: Portage Ceramic Award 2018

Entries are now open for the Portage Ceramic Awards 2018. Established in 2001 and administered by Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery with support from The Trusts Community Foundation, The Portage Ceramic Awards is Aotearoa's best-known barometer for developments in the field of ceramics.

Entries are invited for the inaugural award from those practitioners yet to achieve widespread recognition in ceramics within New Zealand or overseas.

NEWS: Art Awards Season

Miles Art Awards:

Congratulations to Tawhai Rickard for his sculpture work titled Victorian Waka of Social Curiosities. Rickard took away a $10,000 cash prize thanks to the generous support of the Venetta Miles Trust.

Congratulations to Kate Browett, the award winner of the Trustpower/TSA Supreme Award with her entry 'Well My Mum Thinks I'm Beautiful' Acrylic. Also to Birgitt Shannon, runner up with her piece Cosmic Waters.

NEWS: Local Theatres Shine 

Great to see the media shining a light on the Bay's kick ass Theatre scene. May it continue!

Sarah Oemcke 16th Ave Theatre president speaks candidly about Tauranga being "the cultural wasteland". "

“I am sometimes a little dismayed when I talk to locals who don’t even know we have local theatre groups operating,” she says.
“I then proudly scream from the rooftops ‘we have three theatres just in one block, and we have at least nine independent theatre groups running in Tauranga, not including the fantastic productions our secondary schools put on."

Creative Communities Scheme Project ‘Outside the Box’

A creative project to turn a sterile waiting room into an interactive art installation with the help of artists from the Incubator Creative Hub.

"There are a few finishing touches still to come but it’s gone from Nana’s front room to an interactive contemporary space for our clients" Lorna Claydon, clinic manager.

The theme for the Matariki Tauranga Moana 2018 programme of events is Mauri. 

Matariki Tauranga Moana invites everyone to discover the significance of Matariki and explore ways to observe the Māori New Year with whānau and friends. Matariki Tauranga Moana 2018 will see the city comes alive with a five-week programme of events including live performances, exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops and family events.
