Syd Workshops is bringing you something really different, we have yet another skill everyone should definitely add to their kete. We are super pumped and passionate about this course and we hope to generate a lot of interest as it is New Zealand's heritage and everyone deserves the right to learn about it.

In this 12 week course we will learn about Maori culture, traditions, greetings, vowels, pronunciation, our body, our land, sport, food, sentences, phrases, actions, commands, writing sentences and we even take a few little trips to Mauao and nearby marae so we can learn about the Maori history that surrounds us. The list of topics that we learn is endless and its a lot of information to take in therefore we have designed a workbook that you can take home so you can practice your Te Reo outside of the workshop too.

We have tons of fun games, activities and ways to deliver information to you as well as practicals of learning your own pepeha, laying a hangi, flax weaving, poi making and carving. This 12 week course won't teach you fluent Te Reo however it will give you a brief understanding of the Maori culture, Te Reo Maori and how our beautiful country came to be.

The workshops will be run by a young, local guy who has been schooled in only Maori, completed NCEA level 3 in Maori, Te Reo Rangatira and scholarship. He is a graduate of Te Wharekura O Mauao and was Head Boy at this school. He is currently completing Kakano Rua (Maori immersion primary teaching) through the University of Waikato, a 3 year degree and has had previous experience in the Aronui of Tauranga Boys College, Te Puna Reo o Pukehinahina (early childhood centre).

These workshops will be held on a Monday, once per week with the first workshop being held on the 5th August 2019. This course is appropriate for any ages and nationalities, the more diversity we get- the better!
