Councils in high growth areas are required by the government to assess future housing and business needs and create a development strategy. It is essential that we as the creative sector contribute to the council's future planning. How do arts and culture contribute to a sustainable and vibrant region?
What does the Future Development Strategy (FDS) cover?
It aims to drive the discussion and decision-making needed to manage Tauranga's projected ongoing growth. It identifies issues around housing, transport, employment, an ageing demographic, cultural well-being and the environment. The arts is also a contributing factor. The FDS document sets some big picture goals for the region but also aims to spark discussion and debate. We need you to contribute your feedback to this strategy, to ensure that the voice of the arts is heard! How do you see your city of the future?
There is an additional strategy, known as the Tauranga Urban Strategy, which is being consulted on at the same time.
The consultation period opened on Friday 5th of October and continues until Monday 5th of November.
Heck! This is important for me to have my say! What do I do now?
