SUMMARY:June Opening Night Street Party - 4 Art Exhibitions
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: The Incubator Creative Hub\nCome along – your part of the magic of our monthly launch events and a part of Tauranga’s Local Art Scene. \nThis month programme of new shows features students just finding their feet in the gallery art world and some pretty seasoned professionals – a great interesting range. \nAt The Incubator Hub\, art isn’t just hung on walls it’s experienced and admired by many. Come and support local artists from across the motu as they share their work with you art lovers. \nThe Incubator Creative Hub (based in the gorgeous Tauranga Historic Village) is a nationally recognised space where Aotearoa’s arts scene grows and thrives. \nHere’s the good bit……\nFriday 5th June 5.30pm–7pm: Expect live music\, and a licensed bar\, grazing platter by our wonderful sponsors at Gate Pa New World\, with four powerful new exhibitions all launching on the same night. \nEvery person who turns up helps an artist take their next step\, build confidence\, and feel seen. Come see work from artists right here in Tauranga as well as further afield. Bring your friends and let’s fill the village with good vibes. \nThe People’s Gallery – Toi ka Rere: Tūrangawaewae – Bethlehem College Seniors Art Exhibition:\nTūrangawaewae – literally tūranga (standing place)\, waewae (feet)\, it is often translated as ‘a place to stand’. Tūrangawaewae are places where we feel especially empowered and connected. \nYear 11\, 12 and 13 Art students have explored the theme of identity through understanding their tūrangawaewae. Woven through the exhibition are the students’ visits to our school marae\, Te Wairoa\, their journey to Tauranga city\, Mount Maunganui beach\, their homes\, memories with whānau and friends\, and their Christian faith. \nThe Incubator Gallery: Drift an Exhibition by Damien Kurth:\nOn the other end of the scale Damien holds a Master of Fine Arts from Elam School of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Arts from Otago Polytechnic. \nWorking mostly in oils\, Kurth creates incredibly detailed ‘trompe l’oeil’ works that feel like tricks of the eye. The commonplace objects he paints possess the ‘seemliness of the unfamiliar’ or ‘Jamais vu’ a term used to describe the experience of being unfamiliar with something that is very familiar. He builds the painting’s surface slowly; each stroke of oil working with the other to create a harmonic whole. \nThe Pot House Gallery: Coming Undone – by Jo Harris:\nJo Harris is an Auckland-based ceramic artist whose practice revolves around the theme of the authenticity of self and the masks we wear. This exhibition delves into the complex and often conflicting relationship between the inner psychological worlds of women and the roles that society continues to impose upon them. Using black clay as a primary medium\, the work gives physical form to emotional and psychological states that are often difficult to articulate. \nImprint Gallery:\nThe Cube Gallery – perfectly proportioned and run by a trio of printmaker studio artists. Always an Intimate but powerful pocket-sized punch! \nFind out more

SUMMARY:Uncharted Waters an Exhibition by Helen English
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: The Incubator Creative Hub\nThis work is a continuation of work exploring figurative and marine themes. Helen is interested in preserving the natural environment and the discovery of our incredible world without leaving permanent marks. \nShe paints ethereal women as seekers — navigators of the natural world — who engage with their surroundings through intuition and curiosity\, with a respect and wonder for what they find. The fish and ocean creatures which Helen paints represent the beauty and variety of that world which we do not often see up close. \nWith a style that shifts between realism\, expressionism and abstraction\, Helen has a deep passion for colour and creating a mood. Her work consists of layers of water-based mediums and collage which\, after the curing process\, is glazed with oils to enhance depth \nBorn in the UK\, her early career in post-production opened the door to international opportunities\, eventually bringing her to Aotearoa. She had always made art but it took a while to make it a career. After spending years creating intermittently\, and gaining a teaching degree\, she finally created a studio space at home\, and her art practice became a regular pursuit. Her space is peaceful and perfect for creative inspiration. \nWhilst continuing to paint\, she completed a Master of Visual Arts Education at the University of Waikato and then furthered her art practice through training with the Milan Art Institute\, blending classical techniques with contemporary vision. \nSponsored by Gate Pa New World. \nThis exhibition launch preview is Friday 8th May\, 5.30pm – 7pm. On display from 9th May to 31st May. \nEveryone is welcome. Licensed Bar available. \nFind out more

SUMMARY:Emancipation | An Exhibition by Fiorella Silva Pérez
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: The Incubator Creative Hub\nEmancipation is a mixed-media painting exhibition that transforms discarded materials into artworks that move between abstraction and personal narrative. \nThrough this process of transformation\, the exhibition reflects on ideas of release\, renewal\, and the possibility of new meaning emerging from what has been discarded. \nFiorella Silva Pérez is a visual artist who immigrated to New Zealand from Uruguay with her two sons and currently resides in Mount Maunganui. Her work explores contemporary issues affecting different aspects of society. She has long been interested in themes such as racism\, violence\, migration\, poverty\, environmental issues\, and history\, seeking to express these concerns through her art. \nIn her practice\, the artist combines performance and mixed media\, employing a wide range of techniques including oil painting\, three-dimensional assemblage\, sculpture\, and carving. In her most recent work\, Fiorella collects plastic and other debris from New Zealand beaches and melts these materials onto reused canvases\, transforming environmental waste into layered surfaces that reflect both damage and resilience in the natural world. \nSponsored by Gate Pa New World. \nThis exhibition launch preview is Friday 10 April 2026\, 5.30pm – 7pm at The Incubator Creative Hub\, The Tauranga Historic Village\, 17th Ave\, Tauranga. Everyone is welcome. \nOn display at The Incubator Gallery from 11 April to 2 May. \nFind out more

SUMMARY:The Space of a Pause – Group Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: The Incubator Creative Hub\nThe Space of a Pause brings together a group of women artists whose work invites a slowing down\, a moment of stillness\, breath\, and attention. Across painting\, textile\, photography and object-based practice\, the exhibition offers works that create room rather than demand it\, encouraging the viewer to pause\, linger\, and look more closely. \nFor these artists\, making becomes a deliberate act of stillness and quiet. Created alongside lives shaped by care\, movement\, and change – and for many\, the presence of children – the studio becomes a space to step out of urgency and into focus. Within this space\, light settles\, forms are held\, and quiet gestures carry meaning. \nRooted in ways of seeing contemporary life in Aotearoa\, the exhibition suggests that a pause is not an absence\, but something actively made. Here\, stillness becomes an invitation\, to take space\, to notice what is often overlooked\, and to inhabit a moment where form\, feeling\, and attention are allowed to rest. \nGroup name: In Quiet Company\nIn Quiet Company is a small collective of female artists based in Aotearoa\, brought together through a shared stage of life\, balancing creative practice alongside family and work. The group connects online\, sharing works in progress\, ideas and support\, and is united by a shared love of making and continuing creative practice through busy and changing seasons.\nWorking across painting\, textile\, photography and object-based work\, In Quiet Company formed to create opportunities to show together and support one another’s creative lives. \nNames of Artists:\n1. Rhianna May\n2. Rose Ackland\n3. Hollie Teutscher\n4. Jessica Crowe\n5. Rose Kennedy\n6. Lisa Billing / Heymaker Studio \nSponsored by Gate Pa New World – This exhibition launch preview is Friday 13th of March 2026 – 5.30pm at The Incubator Creative Hub\, The Tauranga Historic Village\, 17th Ave\, Tauranga. Licensed Bar onsite\, and everyone is welcome. On display at The People’s Gallery Toi Ka Rere from the 14th of March to the 4th of April. \nFind out more

SUMMARY:Revival an Exhibition by Te Manaia Jennings
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: The Incubator Creative Hub\nTe Manaia Jennings explores themes of freedom\, renewal\, and liberation through abstract realism. This exhibition presents powerful wolves\, delicate butterflies\, and women intimately entwined with nature\, often accompanied by birds\, stars\, or butterflies emerging from within. Together\, these motifs evoke strength\, transformation\, and the untamed spirit of the natural world. Each work reflects a journey of growth\, healing\, and the quiet liberation that comes with embracing change. \nThrough her practice\, Jennings invites viewers into a realm where nature and spirit converge\, celebrating the profound freedom found in transformation. These works were created over an extended period\, often guided by intuition rather than intention. She speaks of being drawn instinctively to certain colours\, forms\, or subjects without fully understanding why. Over time\, however\, a unifying narrative revealed itself\, a return to self\, and a rediscovery of inner freedom and wholeness. This awakening mirrors Jennings’ own journey over recent years\, shaped deeply by her faith in Jesus. \nAs the exhibition took form\, Jennings found herself asking: What is the story here? What is this exhibition called? The word that consistently emerged was revival. Biblically\, revival is defined as restoring to life\, breathing life anew\, and strengthening what has grown weary. This concept lies at the heart of the exhibition. \nBefore fully committing to art\, Jennings aspired to become a psychologist. She holds a Bachelor of Health Science in Psychology and has worked in children’s mental health within school settings. While she found this work deeply meaningful\, her calling to paint never faded\, only intensifying with time. \nThroughout her life\, Jennings has navigated significant personal challenges\, including struggles with mental health and chronic physical pain resulting from severe congenital scoliosis. There were moments when perseverance felt impossible. Yet it is precisely in these moments that revival is found. Life is often demanding\, but within us exists the capacity to rise\, to heal\, and to be made new and strong once again. \nSponsored by Gate Pa New World. \nThis exhibition launch preview is Friday 13th of March 2026 – 5.30pm at The Incubator Creative Hub\, The Tauranga Historic Village\, 17th Ave\, Tauranga. Licensed Bar onsite\, and everyone is welcome. \nOn display at The Incubator Gallery from the 14th of March to the 5th of April. \nFind out more
