Waitangi Day 2019

He Iwi Kotahi’s ‘Tauranga Moana Waitangi Day Festival 2019 was an event spread between two locations: Historic Village and Mt Drury. Creative Bay of Plenty assisted in the organisation and marketing of the Historic Village venue.

The day featured live music and cultural performances at both venues, and a range of food stands with something for everyone. There were art exhibitions and workshops to participate in at The Historic Village.

This was a KOHA event to support our local kapa haka roopu, Te Kapa Haka o Ngati Ranginui as they prepared for Te Matatini 2019.

At the Hopukiore site, headlining acts included: The Māori Volcanics / Direct Descendants / Left Hand Break / Doc Brown / The Hype / Social Wowfare / DJ Ed-X

At The Historic Village, headlining acts included: Whirimako Black & Justin Kereama  / Te Kapa Haka o Ngati Ranginui / Peri Kohu / Soulsax Plus / JJ Mist / Regan Perry

The Incubator hosted two art exhibitions and a number of workshops that took place at The Historic Village including: Waitangi – An Exhibition – Toi ka rere / Te hā o Waitaiki – An Exhibition  The People’s Gallery / It’s cool to Korero (Fun bite sized Te Reo workshops) / Poi making / Taonga pūoro demonstration (Māori musical instrument demonstration) / Raranga workshops (creating small harakeke objects) / Toi Māori activities for kids (Contemporary art activities).
