Motivating and inspiring each other and teaching each other new tricks. \nWe welcome new people and are happy to teach. We gather at The Incubator Lounge in the Big Red Barn at The Tauranga Historic Village on 17th Ave. \nThere is a Koha jar for a small contribution towards the venue. Every first Sunday of the Month (except on long weekends or sometimes if Sunday is a special day i.e. Father’s Day) from 9.30am to 11.30am. All welcome. \nA social collective of mad yarn bombers\, sultry stitchery\, happy hookers and arty nutters. We share yarns\, both wooly and tall\, laugh heaps\, swap patterns\, show off our latest projects and have found there is nothing a good needling won’t fix. lol. SUMMARY:Just Bring Yourselves - An Exhibition by Jennie Holdsworth
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: The Incubator Creative Hub\nJust Bring Yourselves is a collection of mixed media paintings exploring domestic interiors\, chairs\, vessels and lamps in warm\, muted tones. \nThrough paint\, collage and layered surfaces\, the works reflect on warmth\, welcome and the spaces we return to. A chair at a table asks who sat there before\, or who it might be waiting for. Lamps\, vessels and familiar rooms hold the feeling of home. These are paintings about what a place or an object can hold. \nThe aesthetic behind this work was inherited before it was chosen. It comes from growing up in a home with a particular kind of warmth\, and from three generations sharing a similar way of making a home. The Dutch call it gezellig; a feeling that is difficult to translate but easy to recognise. \nJennie Holdsworth is a mixed media artist and Visual Art educator based in Tauranga\, Aotearoa New Zealand. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Elam School of Fine Arts\, University of Auckland\, and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching. Her work has sold to private collectors across New Zealand. SUMMARY:Te Waka o Rangi: Stories Written in the Stars An Exhibition by Students of Northern Health School
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: The Incubator Creative Hub\nWe are absolutely delighted to welcome Northern Health School as our feature exhibition in the Incubator Gallery this Matariki. \nTheir beautiful display explores Te Waka o Rangi and the many layers of meaning held within Matariki – stars\, stories\, and remembrance – brought to life through harakeke whetū and a striking manu tukutuku created by ākonga/students. \nAlongside this\, the exhibition shares the journey of “What’s in a Name?”\, where curiosity about the local street names ‘Harata Way’ and ‘Hoariri Way’ led ākonga to the rich local history of the Battle of Pukehinahina and the courage of Harata\, a young Ngāi Tamarāwaho wahine. This collaborative exhibition celebrates the creativity\, learning\, and connection of ākonga\, kaiako\, whānau\, and the wider community. \nOn display in The Incubator Gallery and Studios from the 4th of July to the 25th of July\, 10am – 3pm. \nFind out more

SUMMARY:Drift an Exhibition by Damien Kurth
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: The Incubator Creative Hub\nA selection of Damien’s latest works. \nWorking mostly in oils\, Kurth creates incredibly detailed ‘trompe l’oeil’ works that feel like tricks of the eye. He paints everyday objects – a cut crystal glass\, an old jar\, a patterned tin – things we usually overlook as mundane. \nBy placing these objects centre stage\, with no clues about where they are or why they’re there\, their familiarity starts to fade. and they gain an element of mystery and intrigue. Kurth’s commonplace objects possess the ‘seemliness of the unfamiliar’ or ‘Jamais vu’ a term used to describe the experience of being unfamiliar with something that is very familiar. \nThe artist uses a traditional ground gesso\, building the painting’s surface slowly; each stroke of oil working with the other to create a harmonic whole. Delicately painted sheets of paper and masking tape subtly divide the picture plane\, creating a sense of depth\, while fluorescent pink post-it notes punctuate his compositions; drawing the viewer’s eye across the canvas\, achieving an overall sense of balance and harmony. \nDamien Kurth (b.1972 Stratford\, Aotearoa New Zealand) is a contemporary painter residing in the BOP. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from Elam School of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Arts from Otago Polytechnic. Kurth’s work is held in numerous collections in NZ Aotearoa and worldwide. He is the winner of the Otago Polytechnic Painting Award\, the Derivan Painting Award\, the Cleveland Art Awards (Highly Commended) and a finalist in the Adam Portraiture Award. \nSponsored by Gate Pa New World. \nThis exhibition launch preview is Friday 5th June\, 5.30pm – 7pm at The Incubator Creative Hub\, The Historic Village\, 17th Ave\, Tauranga.
