SUMMARY:Uncharted Waters an Exhibition by Helen English
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: The Incubator Creative Hub\nThis work is a continuation of work exploring figurative and marine themes. Helen is interested in preserving the natural environment and the discovery of our incredible world without leaving permanent marks. \nShe paints ethereal women as seekers — navigators of the natural world — who engage with their surroundings through intuition and curiosity\, with a respect and wonder for what they find. The fish and ocean creatures which Helen paints represent the beauty and variety of that world which we do not often see up close. \nWith a style that shifts between realism\, expressionism and abstraction\, Helen has a deep passion for colour and creating a mood. Her work consists of layers of water-based mediums and collage which\, after the curing process\, is glazed with oils to enhance depth \nBorn in the UK\, her early career in post-production opened the door to international opportunities\, eventually bringing her to Aotearoa. She had always made art but it took a while to make it a career. After spending years creating intermittently\, and gaining a teaching degree\, she finally created a studio space at home\, and her art practice became a regular pursuit. Her space is peaceful and perfect for creative inspiration. \nWhilst continuing to paint\, she completed a Master of Visual Arts Education at the University of Waikato and then furthered her art practice through training with the Milan Art Institute\, blending classical techniques with contemporary vision. \nSponsored by Gate Pa New World. \nThis exhibition launch preview is Friday 8th May\, 5.30pm – 7pm. On display from 9th May to 31st May. \nEveryone is welcome. Licensed Bar available. \nFind out more

SUMMARY:Thrill of Love
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: 16th Avenue Theatre\nThrill of Love is a serious play written by Amanda Whittington\, who has adapted the factual account of Ruth Ellis\, the last woman executed in Britain for the murder of her partner\, David Blakely. It examines Ruth’s life\, motivations\, and subsequent conviction. \nRuth is portrayed as a sophisticated\, intelligent\, and considerate individual employed at a gentleman’s club managed by Sylvia\, with colleagues Vickie and Doris. Her eloquence and education is evident\, as she regularly addresses grammatical inaccuracies\, which serves to underline the challenging social context of post-war Britain during the mid-1950s. \nThe play opens with Ruth committing the murder and providing a clear confession to Detective Inspector Gale. The narrative alternates between past and present as Gale investigates Ruth’s motives. Rather than focusing on ‘whodunit\,’ the central question explored is why-do-it! \nFind out more

SUMMARY:Classical Titans
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: The Scholars Baroque Aotearoa\nThe Scholars Baroque\, along with renowned national soloists\, will perform the dramatic and moving Stabat Mater by Franz Josef Haydn. This is a stirring and deeply emotional work and\, next to his choral masterpiece The Creation\, is probably Haydn at his finest. \nImmerse yourself in the profound beauty of Haydn’s music\, which captures the sorrow and pathos of the Virgin Mary witnessing the crucifixion of her son. With its stunning melodies and rich harmonies\, this piece is not only a cornerstone of the classical choral repertoire but also a moving reflection on love and sacrifice. \nThe Scholars Baroque are also pleased to welcome Esha Xu\, winner of the Bay of Plenty Symphonia’s 2025 Rising Stars Concerto Competition\, performing Mozart’s Piano Sonata No. 10 in C Major\, K330. Esha is a captivating and talented performer who enthralled audiences at the concerto competition last year\, and the Scholars are excited to share the concert stage with her in their first concert of 2026.

SUMMARY:The Pink Floyd Experience - The Wall Tour 2026
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: In The Flesh Productions\nAn unforgettable return of one of rock’s greatest masterpieces. \nAfter nearly three decades of captivating audiences\, The Pink Floyd Experience proudly brings back the legendary production of The Wall — an epic live re imagining of Pink Floyd’s most powerful concept album. \nThis breath taking tour recreates the spectacle of the original — complete with the monumental construction and dramatic destruction of The Wall itself. It’s not just a concert; it’s an immersive journey through sound\, light\, and emotion — from isolation to transcendence. \nLed by the commanding vocals of Stan Gratkowski and the seasoned musicians who have shaped this act for 28 years\, this show captures the magic\, precision\, and raw feeling that defined Pink Floyd’s legacy. \nYou’ve heard the songs. SUMMARY:The Loose Choir - A Vocal Exploration for Adults
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: Te Ao Mārama – Pāpāmoa Library\nFresh from performing at the Hamilton Arts Festival\, Margaret Dewes returns to lead last year’s hit workshop\, The Loose Choir. In this playful\, lighthearted session\, you’ll reconnect with your voice through breath stabilisation\, activation of the back\, ribs\, and resonators\, exploration of sound quality\, and rhythmic games—all designed to re-awaken creativity and focus. By the end\, the group will come together to harmonise and sing as one. \nThe techniques introduced in this workshop help participants understand the body as an instrument and provide practical tools to continue making music independently. \nOpen to all adults with a curiosity for sound—no prior singing experience required. \nRegister now to secure your spot! \n*Photo credit to Michael Dewes. \nFind out more

SUMMARY:Beginners Photography Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: Anna Menendez Photography\nIf you love taking photos but would like to know how to improve them\, this workshop is for you. It’s not technical nor is it all about the camera. This workshop is designed for beginner and enthusiast photographers who want to understand the fundamental principles of how to take a great photo. It doesn’t matter what you use to shoot with – your phone\, ipad\, point and shoot\, SLR\, DSLR or mirrorless – the rules are all the same. This is about understanding the elements that will take your photograph from ‘that’s nice’ to ‘what a great shot!’. \nWe’ll cover:\n– Common compositional rules and guidelines\n– The different kinds of light to look for\n– Simple tips and techniques to elevate your photography\n– Time to practice what we’ve been discussing with a colour hunt photowalk – bring your camera/phone\n– Talk about what we’ve learnt through practice\n– The opportunity to have an image critiqued and receive some practical feedback\n– The opportunity to critique some images to practice ‘seeing’ \nFind out more
