The first of the Chorus Cabinets began their makeovers last week with 22-year-old Juanita-Louisa Karora (Jlo) creating her piece on a cabinet out at Fashion Island on Thursday.
Jlo’s art submission was chosen as part of the ‘Paint your Cabinet Beautiful’ campaign by Chorus & Keep New Zealand Beautiful to bring beautiful art into our cities. This portrait is of Tamapahore, a renowned 14th century warrior and leader from Papamoa.
Jlo graduated from Tauranga’s Toi-ohomai with a Bachelor of Creative Studies majoring in fashion design and then visual arts. Her talents have not gone unnoticed having won the Emerging Artist Award in the 2016 Miles Art Awards.
As long as she can remember she has always been passionate about art especially sketching and painting portraits. As of late she has been focusing on moving image and performance and working in the arts sector through Arts Management.
This incredibly talented young artist is one to keep an eye out for. The Chorus box she is working on is the across the road from the Papamoa Library next to the roundabout by Fashion Island.
