In 2001 Polly Thin-Rabb was the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Dance advisor who organised the first FreshMoves dance festival; since then thousands of children have been able to experience the thrill of creating a dance with their peers to perform on the Baycourt stage in front of a huge audience.
On 16, 17 & 18 June this year BOP DANCE will very proudly present the 20th FRESHMOVES FESTIVAL.
FreshMoves is a non-competitive, inclusive celebration of dance in our primary schools. School teams of 20 to 50 students from years 3 to 8 present a 5-7 minute dance based on the festival theme (to be announced at the festival launch). Students lead the creative process using the STRANDS and ELEMENTS of dance as per the school curriculum. Each school team rehearses, observes and supports other students during their allocated day of the festival and performs that evening for the public.
To celebrate the 20th consecutive year, the festival has been extended from two to three days and $3000 of dance scholarship is available on application through the participating schools.
The organising committee invites past and new participants to enter to help make it the biggest and best festival yet. To request an entry form or for more information email the BOP Dance coordinator Di Leach: bopdancecoordinator@gmail.com
