Impact of COVID-19 on Creative NZ Funding

Due to the impact of COVID-19, Creative New Zealand has advised that it has suspended all funding programmes currently open, due to open or that have applications being assessed.  This includes the Creative Communities Scheme for Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty, as well as the new Ngā Toi ā Rohe regional fund.  As a result, the Creative Bay of Plenty hui on Ngā Toi ā Rohe that was due to take place this morning has been cancelled.

Creative New Zealand is developing a multi-million -dollar emergency package to support artists, arts practitioners and arts groups/organisations that are coping with the impact of COVID-19.  This includes an initial $4.5 million investment, which will have the following two components:

  • Emergency support for existing clients of Creative New Zealand – multi-year funded arts organisations engaged in investment programmes; and
  • Resilience grants for artists, arts practitioners and arts groups/organisations to support non-investment clients of Creative New Zealand.  There will be quick turnaround periods and rolling weekly decisions made in this respect.

Creative New Zealand will provide further details on the emergency response package on Tuesday 24 March, including clarifying eligibility for this funding and when applications will be sought.  Updates will be posted to https://www.creativenz.govt.nz/news/covid-19-cnz-response .

In addition, hardship grants are also available through the government’s economic response package for businesses and organisations at https://covid19.govt.nz/help-and-advice/for-businesses-and-organisations/.

If you have any questions that Creative Bay of Plenty can help with, please contact annie@creativebop.org.nz.
