Calling local artists: help us make our Western Bay environments more colourful. Creative Bay of Plenty, Chorus, and The Breeze Tauranga 95.8FM have a Streetwise Opportunity for you!
It’s time to make our urban landscape more interesting! Creative Bay of Plenty has again partnered with Chorus and The Breeze Tauranga to call for designs for seven local telecommunications cabinets. If you are a Bay of Plenty artist and want to submit a design, this year’s theme is Local Stories and Identities. The deadline is 5pm, Friday 24 July, and selected artists will be paid a commission to paint their visual statement and enhance civic space.
“Public art is about making a more interesting place to live, work, and visit, but it can also help us tell stories, inspire ideas, reveal local identity, and turn an average site into something extraordinary,” says Eric Holowacz, new General Manager at Creative Bay of Plenty. “That’s exactly what this partnership — and ongoing project to transform our region’s Chorus telecommunications cabinets — will do.”
Holowacz and the team at Creative Bay of Plenty are coordinating this public art effort and invite all local artists and visual communicators to submit a design for consideration. Selected artists will be notified by early August and transformation of the cabinets on site will begin soon after.
