Supported by the Creative Communities Scheme, Lanterns and Lights in Katikati features free lantern workshops, a lantern parade, and more.
‘Train the Teacher’ master classes kick off in early July and expert lantern maker Ally Rogers will be teaching attendees how to teach other people how to make lanterns via zoom.
Free lantern workshops start later in the month and Ally will show attendees how to make a a fish- or ika-shaped lantern. Workshops are for everyone – any age, ability, or experience level. Lantern making is a simple, beginner-level craft.
Workshop attendees are encouraged to join the Lantern Parade with their creations that glow in the dark. The parade on Friday 22 July starts at 5pm from Kotahi Lane in Katikati and progresses to Katikati Township where the town will be buzzing with street entertainment and outdoor eateries.

Lanterns and Lights is organised by Katch Katikati, sponsored by the Creative Communities Scheme and Project Parore and was originally scheduled to be part of the Katikati Festival of Arts in 2021.
