There are some exciting changes to the prestigious Molly Morpeth Canaday Art Award.
Starting this year, the MMCA is expanding its horizons and embracing the full spectrum of visual art forms. The Painting & Drawing category will be merged with the Three-Dimensional category, making way for a more inclusive, diverse and dynamic competition. From contemporary painting to stunning sculptures, multimedia installations to intricate textile works, artists working in all mediums are invited to participate.
It is the award team’s vision to provide a platform that celebrates and recognizes the incredible talent and creativity across various visual art forms. This change reflects commitment to fostering innovation and pushing the boundaries of artistic expression.
The Molly Morpeth Canaday Art Award has a long-standing tradition of supporting emerging and established artists alike, and award continues that legacy with this exciting evolution. The award not only offers substantial prize money but selected finalist’s work will be exhibited in Te Kõputu a te whanga a Toi, Whakatāne Museum and Gallery and viewed by art enthusiasts from around the country.
