After a well-deserved break, a recharged Baycourt team is back and amped up to create more memorable live event experiences that connect, inspire, challenge and delight audiences in 2024.
Behind the scenes staff are already hard at work, using January and February to ensure Tauranga’s premiere performing arts centre remains in tip-top shape. Every piece of theatre equipment is rigorously tested and necessary building maintenance is undertaken, along with carrying out several important administrative and operational tasks.
“The centre is a hive of activity right now as we prepare to welcome in our 2024 season of events”, shared Kaiwhakahaere Hinonga (Venue Manager) Reena Snook. “One of our guiding kaupapa (principles/vision) is a commitment to offering a broad range of professional and grassroots arts and entertainment experiences for our community. This year’s events calendar will certainly deliver on that commitment.”
Opening the 2024 season of events at Baycourt is RESPECT – The Aretha Franklin Story, an electrifying tribute to the legendary Queen of Soul on February 8. Starring Australia’s ‘Soul Mama’, Angie Narayan, RESPECT journeys through Franklin’s courageous life of love, tragedy, and triumph while showcasing her greatest hits over the last 50 years.
March then shifts into overdrive with a line-up of six sensational events set to take place – The Michael Jackson HIStory Show (March 1), The Harmonic Resonators’ Encore Tour (March 2), The Royal New Zealand Ballet’s Tutus on Tour (March 3-4), Kaylee Bell’s Nights Like This NZ Tour (March 14), The Elton John Experience (March 23), and the grand crescendo, the annual Port of Tauranga 61st National Jazz Festival (March 26-28).
Across 2024 there will also be plenty of notable events sure to satisfy everyone’s tastes. From uproarious stand-up comedy starring Heath Franklin’s Chopper (May 21), Guy Montgomery (May 30), and Nurse Georgie Carroll (July 3), sizzling and sultry dance courtesy of Magic Men Australia (July 19), to magnificent musical theatre with The World of Musicals in Concert (July 22) and Tauranga Musical Theatre’s two-week season of Les Misérables (September 11-28).
Snook emphasised, “This is only a snippet of the events lined up so far, with more exciting shows to be announced over the coming weeks and months.”
“We’re gearing up for another great year and can’t wait to see Baycourt bursting at the seams once again with audiences, performers, and production crew. If you want to be one of the first to know about our upcoming events and exclusive announcements, follow us on Facebook and Instagram (@baycourt.tauranga) or sign up for our e-newsletter at www.baycourt.co.nz.”
