From Childhood Dreams to Creative Realities: How Adriana Litchfield and Sofia Saccone Are Inspiring Independent Publishing in the Bay
Adriana Litchfield, an Argentinian writer residing in the Bay of Plenty, has always harboured a deep passion for storytelling. But like many, life’s demands—motherhood, a full-time job, and the daily hustle—left little room for her childhood dreams. That was until a spark, ignited by the innocent words of her daughter, set her on a path of rediscovery and creativity.
“Do you remember what you would have liked to be as a child? What were your dreams at 12 years old?” Adriana asked herself. These questions lingered in her mind, leading her on a joyous journey to reconnect with the dreams that once filled her heart with excitement. The result? A heartwarming children’s book titled The Little Girl with Big Feet.
Inspired by her daughter’s playful declaration, “Mami, I am a big girl. Look at my Big Feet,” Adriana began her creative journey. Waking up early every Wednesday, she would head to a small coffee place by the ocean in Pāpāmoa, embracing the quiet moments before the world stirred. With discipline and passion, she brought her story to life, navigating the challenges of self-publishing with the same determination she once had as a twelve-year-old dreaming big.
Adriana’s story is one of perseverance and the power of self-belief. Partnering with an artist who was serendipitously moving to her town (Sofia Saccone also from Argentina), they collaborated to bring the character of Nina to life—a character that Adriana’s friend Sofia instantly loved. Together, they produced a collection of stories that celebrate friendship, motivation, self-love, and the magic of childhood.
“Today, our dream came true,” Adriana shared with a smile. “We stand proud, having achieved our dream independently, with a modest budget. This victory is a testament to the power of determination and the ability to conquer our inner demons.”
But this isn’t just about one book. Adriana and Sofia have a larger vision for the Bay of Plenty community. They hope to teach and inspire others in the region, showing that with creativity, determination, and a little help, anyone can bring their publishing dreams to life.
“Life is about having fun, being the best version of yourself every day, and doing the things that touch your soul,” Adriana said, encouraging others to connect with their inner child and pursue their passions.
