The Tauranga Society of Artists is proud to announce its upcoming Original Art Expo and Jensen Supreme Art Award, taking place from 3 to 6 October 2024. Held at the Tauranga Boys’ College Gymnasium, this highly anticipated event will showcase an impressive collection of over 500 original paintings by local artists, affirming its status as the largest art expo in the Bay.
With a membership exceeding 270 artists, the Tauranga Society of Artists is the region’s largest and most diverse collective of creative talent. This year’s expo builds on the success of previous events, promising a vibrant display of artistic excellence across a wide range of genres and mediums. Art enthusiasts and collectors alike are invited to explore and celebrate the incredible creativity that defines the local art scene.

- Dates & Times: Thursday 3 October – Sunday 6 October, 9 am – 5 pm (Sunday until 3 pm)
- Location: Tauranga Boys’ College Gymnasium, Corner of 14th Avenue & Devonport Road
Event Highlights:
- Jensen Supreme Art Award: This prestigious annual award, hotly contested by Society members, will be judged by one of Tauranga’s leading artists. Attendees will have the opportunity to view the nominated works and see if they align with the judges’ selections for this year’s accolade.
- People’s Choice Award: Sponsored by Gordon Harris (the Art & Graphic Store), this popular award allows visitors to vote for their favourite painting from the exhibition. In the previous expo, over 1000 votes were cast. Attendees can participate in this interactive event and stand a chance to win an original artwork.
- Tiny Art: This unique category features miniature artworks no larger than 150mm x 150mm, usually priced under $150. Tiny Art has proven to be a hit at previous exhibitions, offering an affordable way to acquire original pieces and making perfect gifts for art lovers.
- Cards & Fine Art Prints: Some of the participating artists will offer cards derived from their artworks, a popular feature of past expos. This year, the exhibition will also introduce fine art prints, providing additional options for art enthusiasts.
- Guest Exhibitor: Tauranga Floral Art joins the expo, adding an exciting dimension to the event with their exquisite floral displays.
- Live Art: Continuing a successful tradition, the expo will feature live art demonstrations, showcasing a variety of techniques including oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, and more. “Art in Action” will allow visitors to interact with artists, watch them create, and learn about different artistic processes.
