Envirohub BOP is thrilled to announce the return of Sustainable Backyards, celebrating 21 years of inspiring sustainability across the region. Running throughout March 2026, this beloved annual event offers a jam-packed calendar of workshops, tours, and activities designed to educate, inspire, and connect communities of all ages.
Whether you’re taking your first steps towards sustainable living or you’re a seasoned eco-warrior, there’s something for everyone to explore.
Highlights for 2026:
- Good Tides Festival – An afternoon of wellness, sustainability and music. We will have a mix of movement sessions, a beach clean, creative workshops, eco walk and talks and ocean activities.
- Hands-on Workshops – Get creative while making a difference: learn about botanical flower printing and sewing, make art with foraged natural materials, or make your own sauerkraut. Perfect for all ages.
- Friends of the Bush Benefit Concert – Enjoy an epic line-up of DJs at Astrolabe Bar in the Mount, with ticket proceeds supporting the protection of native birds.
- Community Garden Open Days – Explore your local garden space, learn about the garden kaupapa, and take part in all the activities they are running on the day.
- Kayak Clean up – Brand new this year – for a gold coin donation you can grab a kayak and clean up the Wairoa river with Waimarino Adventure Park
- And More – Family-friendly activities, competitions, and plenty of surprises await throughout March.
Where: Multiple locations across the Bay of Plenty, from Waihi Beach in the West, through to Whakatāne in the East, and down to Rotorua.
