More than 140 people gathered this week for Behind the Canvas, a special collaboration between LOA Law and Creative Bay of Plenty, that celebrated the creativity and stories of three artists in our rohe (area).
Artists Shona Mackenzie, Millie Pidwell and Darcell Apelu spoke about their individual journeys, offering insight into the evolving nature of their practices and the motivations that continue to drive their work.
These moments are an important part of a healthy creative ecosystem. They make the work of artists more visible, build understanding between artists and the wider community, and create opportunities for new relationships to form. They also highlight the diversity of practice that exists within our region.
As our creative community continues to grow, evenings like this play a vital role – not only in celebrating practice, but in strengthening the connections that support it.
