“World Homeless Day is an international campaign to draw attention to the needs of our community and to raise awareness for people experiencing homelessness. Every year KAI AROHA – Feeding our hungry Community organises the ‘cardboard kōrero’ art installation community event where cardboard and paint pens are the main material used to make art for a temporary public installation. This year ‘cardboard kōrero’ will continue in the CBD but we are wanting to draw greater attention to this event by holding an art exhibition called: WORLD HOMELESS DAY – A SLICE OF HUMANITY at The People’s Gallery – ‘Toi ka rere’ from the 10th – 16th October. This is an opportunity for our community to take action and utilise the visual arts as a platform to bring positive change and draw attention to the needs of homeless people. We are asking the creatives in our community to use the humble pizza box as a support for their artwork to make a statement, tell a story and highlight the specific needs of the homeless.
– Artist provides the pizza box for the artwork
– Artwork to be for sale if they wish
– When artwork sells, the artist is to choose a local charity meal to donate their money to
– Please drop off completed pizza box art to The Incubator or Kai Aroha by Tuesday 8 October
It is an opportunity for us to voice our support for our fellow community members, the mums, dads, individuals, youth, kuia and kaumātua elderly who are all experiencing homelessness. There is one slice of humanity that community can connect with…and that is homelessness.
