Tauranga artists have proven their artistic talents with a mural making it into the annual Chorus Cabinet Art Calendar.
Artist Shane Walker’s eye-catching mural Hustle Bustle has been picked to feature in the 2022 calendar, chosen by popular vote within Chorus from more than 120 contenders throughout the country.
His design will feature as the December pin up and it is not the first time he has had a mural chosen, with his Golf Road mural Seaside making it through as the 2019 year’s calendar cover.
“Mauao, local produce, import and export of goods, tourism, beach culture, fishing, to name a few. Tauranga’s bustling environment is made up of mixed identities, making it a unique and appealing destination for all,” says Walker.
All cabinet designs painted during the year get the opportunity to feature in the following year’s calendar, with the vote thrown open to all Chorus staff to choose their favourites.
Creative Bay of Plenty Marketing Manager Rose Treadwell says the partnership between Creative BOP, The Breeze radio station and Chorus has been in place since 2018.
“It’s really a fantastic opportunity for artists to show case their work, but to have one their murals selected to appear in the calendar is a real credit to Tauranga artisits.”, she said
“I hear that Andre Roth’s and Alex McLeod’s murals from this year are already contenders for the 2023 calendar”
Chorus Community Relations Manager Jo Seddon says, “It becomes pretty competitive and this year we narrowed it down to just 24, which Chorus staff then voted on. The top 12 made it through to the calendar but the final votes were extremely close.
“In fact for the first time we have included an ‘honourable mentions’ section on the inside front cover for those who narrowly missed out.
“We’ve been lucky over the years to have such talented artists create murals on our cabinets and we always look forward to what they come up with next.”
Copies of the calendars are sent to interested stakeholders around the country and overseas and a few are available to the general public.
People just need to email Chorus (communityrelations@chorus.co.nz) with their name and delivery address, along with a short explanation as to why they would like a copy, and they may be lucky enough to see one appear in their letter box.
