Unveiling Tauranga Art Gallery’s multipurpose pop up space

Tauranga Art Gallery (TAG) is thrilled to unveil the launch of their new multipurpose POP UP space at 42-44 Devonport Rd, set to open its doors to the public 8 July 2023! Join TAG as they embark on this exciting journey of art and culture.

While TAG’s main building on Willow St will remain open until October, featuring the Te Hōtoke Winter Season exhibitions until 6 August, the team are preparing for an extraordinary final wave of shows to mark the last chapter before the highly anticipated redevelopment commences.

Tauranga Art Gallery invites you to immerse yourself in the inspiring line up of artist talks, workshops and events which will continue throughout both locations – more to be announced!

The Gallery is proud to announce the first exhibition to grace the walls of their brand new Pop Up space, Whaka-aho: Peata Larkin and Alexis Neal.

Peata Larkin (Tūhourangi, Ngāti Whakaue, Ngāti Tūwharetoa) and Alexis Neal’s (Ngāti Awa/Te Ātiawa) practices intersect through their ancestral connections to weaving. Whaka-aho/connecting threads is a joint exhibition presenting a timeline of works that ignite shared conversations between the artists’ personal developments, influences, and materiality; celebrating weaving structures that explore a sense of identity.

“Whaka-aho embodies the values of Holland Beckett Law and concepts of our brand identity – inspired by the woven pingao thread. We are delighted to sponsor this special exhibition in the new Tauranga Art Gallery Pop Up” – Vanessa Hamm, Partner, Holland Beckett Law.
