Explore Tauranga City Centre’s new murals by bicycle on the Street Art Cycle Tour!

Tauranga city centre streets are about to become even more vibrant – and soon, people will have the chance to explore them on two wheels! On Sunday 23 March 2025, from 2pm to 3:30pm, participants are invited to embark on the Street Art Cycle Tour, a guided ride offering a preview of the upcoming murals set to transform the city as part of the Tauranga Street Art Festival. The cycle tour, part of Envirohub Bay of Plenty’s Sustainable Backyards programme, will begin at the Hairy Maclary sculptures on the Tauranga Waterfront and is free to attend, though RSVPs are required.

Led by an Envirohub Bay of Plenty guide, the tour will take cyclists on a journey past five brand-new murals, as well as other striking pieces of street art and hidden gems scattered throughout the city. Participants will gain insights into the stories behind each artwork and develop a deeper appreciation for Tauranga city centre’s growing public art scene.

This tour offers an exciting opportunity for art lovers, cycling enthusiasts, and those looking for a fun, social ride to explore our public art collection in an engaging and sustainable way. Riders are encouraged to bring their own bikes, although rentals are available nearby. Helmets are required for safety, and a sense of adventure is highly recommended.

The event is suitable for individuals aged 12 and over. Participants must be confident on the road, and those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Street Art Cycle Tour is part of Sustainable Backyards and is organised by Envirohub. The event highlights the Tauranga Street Art Festival murals, which have been delivered by Craig McClure and Paul Bradley of Lighthouse, a public art curation and production company. The festival is made possible with the support of Creative Bay of Plenty, Tauranga City Council, Resene, Tauranga Art Gallery, Fosters, and Height for Hire.

Spaces for this event are limited, so interested participants are encouraged to register here early to secure their place.
