Aro’s uplifting performance is warm, original and unmistakably of Aotearoa. Aro’s work explores themes of kaitiakitanga and manaakitanga, caring for ourselves, one another, and the world around us.
With a deep passion for the power of language and music to celebrate cultural identity, award-winning husband and wife duo of Charles (Te Rarawa, Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Te Ata Waiohua, Ngāti Mutunga) and Emily Looker blend Emily’s honey-voiced jazz with Charles’ full-throated, percussive sound infused with shades of haka.
Aro’s infectious energy, soulful vocals, and engaging storytelling create an intimate and uplifting atmosphere, inviting the audience to sing along and immerse themselves in the magic of Aotearoa’s cultural heritage.
Please note: There is an additional FREE event for whānau and tamariki: Saturday 25 October, 11am–12pm. Festival Garden, Northern Waterfront Reserve.
