On Friday we visited Otumoetai college and met the year 12 Media and Māori students who will be heading off to China in a weeks time through an all-expenses-paid exchange facilitated by the New Zealand China Friendship society. Each student will be immersed in the culture by staying with host families in the city of Nanchang.
During their 2 week stay, they will be making a silent film for the International Silent Film Festival as well as making a documentary about their experience. The reciprocal agreement will see students from China coming over to New Zealand to experience our culture and work on their media projects.
The media students already have impressive resumes having worked for professional photography and film companies. The Māori students will be featuring in the film and will be keeping a visual diary. Each of the students work and experiences will also go towards their NZCA credits.
Many of the students have never been out of the country so this is sure to be a very exciting trip.
