Open-Captioned Screening: The Lady in the Van

Presented by Hearing Support Bay of Plenty and Sonic Cinema, join us at The Village Community Cinema for an Open-Captioned screening of THE LADY IN the VAN.
Based on a true story, The Lady in the Van (2015) is a witty, bittersweet comedy-drama about Alan Bennett and Miss Shepherd and based on Bennett’s memoirs. In 1973 London, a proud, homeless, and cantankerous elderly woman known as Miss Shepherd (Maggie Smith) temporarily parks her battered van in the driveway of playwright Alan Bennett (Alex Jennings). “Temporarily” turns into 15 awkward, exasperating, and deeply human years.
This film screening will have written assistive captioned text on the cinema screen, describing all auditory speech and sounds throughout the duration of the film, providing an inclusive viewing experience for those with hearing loss.
