The team at Activate Vacant Spaces are excited to announce a double-whammy of exciting new opportunities for local artists! The vision is to activate the laneway off Grey St that leads to the Spring St carpark. You know the one, with the best falafel in town… The AVS team are looking to transform the space by developing not one, but two new bodies of art: a mural and an installation…
- The Laneway Mural Project: An artist will be paid $2,000 to design and create a mural onto the wall space in the laneway. Activate Vacant Spaces are seeking concept design submissions that will visually transform the laneway space and dynamically connect, provoke and resonate with the public who interact with it. You need to think outside the box; does your mural idea invite engagement from our public? Submissions close 30 October.
- The Laneway Art Installation Project: An artist will be paid $1,000 to design, create and install their work over summer 2020, un-installing it at its conclusion. Activate Vacant Spaces seek submissions of 3D art installations that will engage viewers on multiple levels, activating their senses to experience art in a new way. The focus should be on the idea, how it is dynamically and visually presented, the central message and the impact it will have. Installation art should make its audience stop and think. Submissions close 30 October; work must be installed by 28 November.
