‘At the age of 9, I was taught copperplate writing by my Grandfather, and from this bases come my interest in illuminated manuscripts, and the study of the book of Kells and early pictish art. Pens and nibs were handed down to me from my Grandfather and with these I did calligraphy works for friends. I gained placing in a Calligraphic Creative Writing Competition and my work was sent over to Philadelphia U.S.A to go on permanent exhibition’.
You can catch Ray crafting down at the Men’s Shed, here at the Historic Village.
