Australian, London-based pianist Piers Lane returns to New Zealand to perform the complete cycle of Frédéric Chopin’s beloved ‘nocturnes’.
The 21 ‘nocturnes’ are among Chopin’s most intimate compositions, suggestive of a myriad nighttime atmospheres and emotions. Of twilight, dusk and into the dark night. Of contemplation, serenity, melancholy, drama, and joy. They are each elegantly drawn and sensuously beautiful. The first ‘nocturne’ was composed when Chopin was 17, and with the final ‘nocturne’ being composed just three years before his death at age 39, additional associative emotions can be imagined.
