Just Bring Yourselves – An Exhibition by Jennie Holdsworth

Just Bring Yourselves is a collection of mixed media paintings exploring domestic interiors, chairs, vessels and lamps in warm, muted tones.
Through paint, collage and layered surfaces, the works reflect on warmth, welcome and the spaces we return to. A chair at a table asks who sat there before, or who it might be waiting for. Lamps, vessels and familiar rooms hold the feeling of home. These are paintings about what a place or an object can hold.
The aesthetic behind this work was inherited before it was chosen. It comes from growing up in a home with a particular kind of warmth, and from three generations sharing a similar way of making a home. The Dutch call it gezellig; a feeling that is difficult to translate but easy to recognise.
Jennie Holdsworth is a mixed media artist and Visual Art educator based in Tauranga, Aotearoa New Zealand. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland, and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching. Her work has sold to private collectors across New Zealand. Just Bring Yourselves is her first solo exhibition.
