This workshop is designed for all skill levels and will be held in a relaxed, open learning environment. Our goal is to provide an enjoyable experience exploring various approaches to painting a portrait.
We will cover painting techniques involving colour theory, tonal work, brushwork and mark making, proportions, and the anatomical structure of the portrait. We will discuss the use of oil and acrylic paints, various mediums, and surfaces, learning how these can enhance both the painting process and the finished work.
This workshop is suitable for everyone, from novices who have never picked up a paintbrush to exhibiting artists. While the focus will be on portraiture, the concepts and techniques we explore are universal and transferable to any genre of painting. The foundation of the workshop will come from traditional oil painting techniques. There will be plenty of room for experimentation and individual growth. If you are unsure about portraiture, you can use this workshop as an in-depth refresher on the fundamentals of painting.
Be prepared for an enjoyable time painting in a relaxed, supportive environment.
