Join us for a hands-on, two-day Nerikomi workshop where you’ll explore the art of coloring clay, learn the unique techniques of paper clay, and construct beautiful slab-built functional ware.
Over the course of the workshop, you’ll delve into the process of layering colored clay to create stunning patterns, discover how to incorporate paper clay for texture and strength, and learn to form functional pottery pieces that are both artistic and practical. This workshop is perfect for those looking to deepen their understanding of ceramic techniques and create one-of-a-kind pieces to use in daily life.
All materials and equipment included.
Alex Wilkinson is the maker behind Mystery Creek Ceramics, founded from a love for nerikomi and functional tableware. A beginner’s pottery class in 2015 sparked her passion for ceramics, helping her through a difficult period of depression. She recently graduated with an honors degree in sculpture from Waikato Institute of Technology, focusing on ceramics. Alex enjoys passing on her knowledge through teaching at pottery societies and through Mystery Creek Ceramics, where she creates colourful, functional objects. Her sculptural works have been featured in exhibitions such as the National Contemporary Art Award and Portage.
