PROFILE
Chris Taylor
- Photography
I was raised in Christchurch and moved to the Bay of Plenty in 1996. I retired in 2020 and am pretty active with Mount Maunganui Runners & Walkers Club and sub-groups including a cycling group which see me out and about with very social groups six days a week. I have been married to Margie for 46 years, have three adult ‘kids’ and seven grandkids.
I’ve always had cameras but it wasn’t until quite a few years ago that I got my first interchangeable lens camera. This was the start of a real passion for photography primarily as a hobby.
I use Olympus (now renamed OM Digital Solutions) compact mirrorless camera gear exclusively. I am largely self taught but have also graduated in the New York Institute of Photography’s ‘Complete Course in Professional Photography’.
Living in the aptly named Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, provides great photography opportunities and the beautiful environment has no doubt been a factor in my preferences for coastal photography themes. I especially love those golden hour photo opportunities around sunrise and sunset. Stormy skies and seas invariably also tempt me to give the camera an outing. I also like to try and capture beach sports, beach play and cruise ships that come and go from the Port of Tauranga in spring, summer and autumn.
I have won and been highly placed in competitions and awards, and my photography has been featured in newspapers and magazines. I have produced successful selling calendars in the past few years and have sold numerous images and canvases. I have also been contracted for photography assignments. I have suspended my website and can be found on Facebook and Instagram, the latter of which is used for both my photography and more personal postings.
I am available for photography projects, collaborations, connecting with other photographers, and tuition particularly with mirrorless cameras.
