I was in England and trained as a draughtswoman which led to drawing a new concept in navigational charts for aircraft by hand. I loved this work which also gave me a chance to travel but I wanted to create using paint. And it wasn’t until I moved to the Bahamas with my husband in 1965 that I met an artist who introduced me to the brand new and versatile acrylic paint. After she left the island I started studying from books and attempting the abstract work that always appealed to me. Finally, after arriving in New Zealand in 1987 I took a weekly course at the Waikato Art Society where I started to understand abstraction. Since then I’ve spent many happy hours “playing” and experimenting with paint. I firmly believe that the process is more important than the result and that every painting should be an adventure into the unknown.
I’ve had an exhibition at the Tauranga Art Gallery, exhibited in Taiwan in the company of Phillippa Blair and Phillip Truttum, be featured in the TV program “Put some colour in your Life”, had many exhibitions throughout New Zealand and last year had a solo XCbition for my 90th birthday.
Now I am wondering what to do next…
