My name is Dorothy Armstrong and I am a potter, now eighty years of age.
My love of clay began as a seven year old when I was introduced to it at school. I was brought up on a dairy farm in the Waikato and married a dairy farmer. I love to make sculptures of the animals and birds around me.
Throughout the years I have attended night classes, workshops, and summer schools taking every opportunity to increase my knowledge of the different types of clay and firing techniques.
I most enjoy Raku firing. I like the speed of the firing and the sometimes brilliant results. I sell my work in galleries around the country and am happy to do commissions. I will also be opening my studio for this year’s Garden and Art Festival, so I’d love to see you there.
