Kia ora,
I am Georgia Williams, a local painter, printmaker and occasional primary school teacher. I have dabbled in relief printmaking for years but have recently swung back around to oil painting. My style is generally controlled and realistic. I like to capture a still, peaceful moment, whether painting a portrait or objects. I also enjoy drawing and mixed media. I sell prints online and through a local gallery.
My love for art was sparked at Mount Maunganui College way back in the 90’s. I went on to study visual art at RMIT in Melbourne. From there I moved to Auckland to gain a Diploma of Computer Graphics from Media Design School and then a Bachelor of Art and Design from AUT. I worked in Auckland for many years in the magazine publishing industry as a graphic designer, illustrator and art director. After starting a family I began freelancing. I moved back to Mount Maunganui in 2014 with my family and have since trained to become a primary teacher. I now work as a relief teacher to fit in around my creative endeavors and my family.
In 2022 I was lucky to receive ‘Creatives in Schools’ funding from the Ministry of Education to undertake a creative project at Omanu Primary School. The project was to illustrate seven local pakiwaitara and turn them into physical and online books for the community to enjoy, and for teachers to use as a resource. The project was very successful.
I am always open to fine art/illustration commissions or exhibition opportunities/collaborations.
