It is the human psyche and the way people connect with each other and their spaces that has sustained Jacki Barklie’s love for making art for more than 30 years. Jacki’s experiences with people inspire much of her creativity, often drawn from her exposure to culture and colourful upbringing in Africa.

Jacki’s fulfilling 37-year career in the creative industry of hairdressing came to a happy ending when she delved into a Bachelor Degree in Creative Industries, focusing on Visual Arts, Printing and Photography. Immersed in a learning environment, Jacki was able to deepen her introspective lens, and from there she grew an insatiable curiosity for experimentation with mixed media, materials, canvas and methods.

As a multi-disciplinary artist, working across a range of mediums including acrylics, printmaking, papier collie, textile and photography, Jacki Barklie aims to express a tension between an idea and an image forming an emotional response.

“I endeavour to push the process further, often indoctrinated and spontaneous. I paint to celebrate the unusual rather than the norm.”
