Hi!
I’m Kim Fifield, an artist and illustrator based in Papamoa. At my happiest when creating, I dabble in many artistic pursuits including painting, drawing, photography, and creating mixed media works. Very much process driven artist, I love to experiment with different mediums within my practice – always learning and extending my artistic field. I enjoy working with decollage and create large textural, abstract expressionist works from the pages of preloved books and magazines.
Largely self taught, I decided to pursue formal training in visual arts in 2018 at Whitecliffe College of Art and Design. After moving to Tauranga in 2019, I transferred into the Creative Industry degree at Toi Ohomai. I am now in my final year of the degree and planning on continuing my studies. Within my current body of work, I am experimenting with creating biopolymers using derivatives of algae, combining art with aquaculture. These materials are not only biodegradable but are also able to be easily recycled within a closed loop system. It’s been a really interesting project to develop.
I was a finalist in the 2022 Miles Art Awards and grateful to be a recipient of a New Horizons for Women Trust award in 2021. As part of supporting and being part of the local art community, I am on the Friends of the Tauranga Art Gallery committee and am also part the Committed Team at the Incubator Creative Hub. I really enjoy getting to know other artists and engaging in events.
In the years prior to my studies, I illustrated six published books and have also worked within traditional animation.
