Kelcy Taratoa

Creative Bay of Plenty welcomes Kelcy Taratoa to the team

The board and team at Creative Bay of Plenty are delighted to announce that Kelcy Taratoa (Ngāi Te Rangi) will be joining the organisation in the newly established role of Ngā Toi Māori Navigator.  This is a senior role that will help shape the future direction of Creative Bay of Plenty’s operations and play a key part in achieving its strategic objectives, including facilitating valuable collaborative opportunities and supporting the success and empowerment of indigenous artists.

Kelcy has a Master of Māori Visual Arts with first class honours, as well as over 20 years of experience working as a visual artist.  During this time he has shown his work in solo and group exhibitions in New Zealand and overseas and undertaken high profile public art commissions.  Kelcy has completed a number of international art projects with ConceptioArt in Hong Kong and also worked as a visual communications specialist for a range of public and commercial entities throughout New Zealand.  For the last eight years he has been a tutor for the Bachelor of Creative Industries degree at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology.

Kelcy brings a wealth of knowledge and connections to the Creative Bay of Plenty team.  His work delivering a creative entrepreneur programme, his own successful career in the arts, and his passion for supporting individuals and communities to achieve their aspirations made him a stand-out candidate for the role.  Kelcy will commence work with Creative Bay of Plenty on 23 January.
